Understanding the SeaTalk NG Network
SeaTalk NG (STNG) is a hybrid cabling system that combines the data structure of NMEA 2000 with bespoke waterproof connectors. While the data protocol is industry-standard, the physical connections require specific STNG components to maintain a watertight seal and reliable contact.
A key benefit of this system is its versatility in connecting generations of equipment. Because the architecture includes an additional line for legacy data, these spares and cables can be made backwards compatible with older SeaTalk 1 devices.
Identifying Your Cabling Needs
The system uses a distinct colour-coding scheme to help you identify the correct replacement part during maintenance:
- Backbone Cables (Blue): These carry data and power throughout the boat, forming the main trunk of the network.
- Spur Cables (White): These connect individual devices, such as chartplotters or instruments, to the T-pieces on the backbone.
- Converter Cables: Essential for linking legacy SeaTalk 1 equipment or standard NMEA 2000 devices into the STNG environment.
Our inventory covers all these essential elements. By choosing the correct adaptors and cables, you can ensure that your navigation data from wind speed to AIS targets, is distributed accurately across your electronics suite.
