NMEA & Networking
NMEA 2000 (NMEA 2k) and NMEA 0183 are the two widely used standards which determine how marine instruments communicate with each other. The vast majority, if not all brands of marine navigation equipment have the capability of communicating with other instruments through this standard. The newer NMEA 2000 specification also includes the use of the DeviceNet cabling standard, making it one step closer to a truely "plug and play" system that is compatible across multiple devices and brands.
